Work Permits for Highly-Skilled Workers

Non-EU nationals must apply for an Italian work visa from the Italian consular authority in their country of residence before arriving in Italy. Additionally, non-EU nationals must secure a valid work permit before entering Italy or starting employment and prove they are highly-skilled workers with a confirmed job offer.

We specialize in providing comprehensive legal services and assistance to nationals from non-EU countries seeking to apply for Italian work permits. Our focus is on assisting highly-skilled workers in navigating the complexities of the application process, ensuring a smooth and successful journey to securing employment in Italy.

At EMIT Law, we guide clients throughout the entire process, from the preliminary work to the final collection of the work permit.

Italy offers several types of work permits for highly-skilled workers. These permits are designed to attract foreign talent in specialized fields such as science, technology, engineering, medicine, and management. Below are the common work permit options for high-skilled professionals:

EU (European Union) Blue Card

The EU Blue Card allows highly-skilled workers from non-EU countries to live and work in an EU country, provided they are highly-skilled. In Italy, the EU Blue Card is issued for a period of two years if the employment contract is a permanent one.

EU Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Work Permit

EU Intra-company Transfer Work Permit is for non-EU employees of multinational companies who are being transferred to an Italian branch or facility. This work permit is typically for highly-skilled managers, specialists, and employed interns.

Italian Work Permit Annual Quota System

To work in Italy, non-EU citizens are required to secure a visa and work authorization. The immigration process for employment in Italy operates under an annual quota system established by a decree known as the “decreto-flussi.”
